Our work at KR Hospital, Mysore is intended to replicate the Victoria model in order to understand burn injuries in a holistic way outside Bangalore. The Aweksha team has begun extending psychological and counselling support to survivors of domestic violence, particularly in cases of burns. We have been conducting a fact-finding study in order to assess the situation on the ground and understand the realities of these incidents.

Recognising that the needs of burns or acid attack survivors extend beyond medical care, we are providing holistic care to the survivors of burns and acid attack as well as their families in the form of education for children of survivors, socio-legal support as well as assistance with rehabilitation and recovery. In several cases, survivors of acid attacks are eligible for compensation from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). Aweksha also helps with follow-up of the cases with the DLSA as well as the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority to ensure that compensation is provided without delay to burn survivors.
